The people behind the project
Matt Beck, M. Ed., Founding Director
Matt Beck's passion is teaching children and young adults. He has worked as a teacher and coach during his 33 years as a professional educator. He currently teaches elementary school in Ferndale, Washington and is a doctoral student at Northeastern University.
Beck has the hands-on experience of creating and implementing education programs, including the Real Hero Mentoring Program, which elevated relationships between children, the school, and the community.
When Beck realized that there were far better ways to run schools than what he was experiencing as a teacher, he began to formulate the ideas that would later become School Change Now. He also wrote two books (Out of Chaos and Who's To Blame) that critique the public school system and offer transformative visions for what they are capable of.
Daniel Levine, P. Ed., Founding Director
Dr. Daniel Levine has a Masters and a Doctorate in Education. His public school experience includes everything from substitute teaching, to working as a middle school language arts teacher, to being a school principal and superintendent. He has been superintendent for three school districts - two in California and one in Washington State.
Dr. Levine was the founder of Test Best, Inc, an educational book company. known for its work in math and science. The company was given credit by the administration and staff of a Washington state elementary school for helping its children score the highest of all elementary schools in the state in science assessment.
Dr. Levine is available for consultation as you transform your school into a healthy 21st century learning environment that guides your children toward becoming skilled, healthy, and caring adults.
Stephen Trinkaus, Executive Director
Stephen Trinkaus brings thirty years of business and non-profit experience to the table. It was a series of daily discussions with Founding Director Matt Beck that convinced Trinkaus of the importance and urgency of revolutionizing public education, something that was reinforced by his own sour experiences in public schools, and watching his teenage son go through similar frustrations in his schooling.
Trinkaus was hired to get School Change off the ground - to do everything from creating and writing content for this website, drafting the mission and vision statements, drafting the strategic plan and fundraising plan, creating the blueprint, designing the Public School Revolution Tool Kit, and pretty much building the organization from the ground up.
Trinkaus owned a natural foods store for 21 years, and has worked for or been on the board of five non-profits, including multi-year stints as board president at three of them. His teaching experience includes teaching Spanish in elementary and middle schools, and survival skills in the wilds of the North Cascades Mountains.
